Help Save a jazz landmark

Posted on by John McCusker

Bolden lived here through 1905.

Jazz pioneer Buddy Bolden’s home on First st is being demolished by neglect. It is owned by the Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church. They bought it in 2007, moved out the renters, and left it to rot. The first photo is what it looked like in 2005. The second one shows it today. This house, a birthplace of jazz, should be saved. What can you do? Go to this city website and fill out a complaint. The address is 2309-2311 First st. You don’t have to put your name on the complaint unless you want to. Please consider taking a moment to let our city know that the neglect of this landmark is unacceptable. THANKS! http://www.nola.gov/safety-and-permits/report-a-violation/
